Hostel

(A boarding school)

The hostels of a boarding school are literally going to be your children’s second home. That is where they will live and breathe and spend time with their peers after school. No compromises are allowed here, nothing but the best should be in place. As a parent, you deserve to be critical about a school’s hostel and must look into every nook and cranny during your pre-admission visit. KIPSmaintainshigh standard boarding facility that is at par to the international schools and you should keep an eye out for such hostel standards.

We will give you a brief overview of the same. How should a hostel in a modern-day boarding school look like? Consider this as your checklist against which you can evaluate a school and move forward to make the ultimate decision. A school may have more facilities than the ones mentioned here, but the following are the absolute necessities.

  1. Physical space in the hostels

The KIPS expanse is massive here. The rooms, corridors or the dining area, nothing can be cramped up. Students must have adequate breathing and living space with the freedom to move around. This parameter is obviously intuition-based and you must judge how much physical space is enough for your child based on your instinct. However, a rule of thumb dictates that the rooms cannot house more than four students and if it does, the space must be hall-like in nature. You can also decide on the corridor and dining area in the same way.

  1. Cleanliness and hygiene is priority

One of the best Kasauli International Public School   always maintain cleanliness and hygiene as its top priority and you will never find a single spec of dirt at such places. At times, the hostels might just be cleaner than your own house. You can request a visit to the hostel’s kitchen and washrooms and inspect every detail in person. These places are shining clean and there is a regular catalogue keeping a record of the same. Check the number of personnel employed for the cleaning duty. You can look into the dining area’s storage and washing facilities.

  1. Supervision is close at hand

Our school dorms are naturally very different from the neighbouring ones. Here, an all-day surveillance system is present at all the necessary places and dorm parent are available close at hand. You can expect CCTV cameras installed in the hostel premises. The warden remain vigilant as well. We build teacher’s living quarters close to the students’ one so that help is always available. They inspect very well and your child be supervised while living in the boarding school.

  1. All auxiliary facilities are in order

The presence of auxiliary facilities also decides the quality of life your child will have within the school campus. The most important being the medical amenities. The school have a tie-up with a nearby hospital to be on call always. There is a rich common room, a hostel indoor sports facilities and so on. All these combine to make living in school fun and exciting.

  1. Strict hostel rules must be enforced

Our school hostel have specific timings for the lights to go out, the closing of the main gate, dining time, usage of telephones, etc. Such rules will enforce the discipline that you want your child to have and fulfil your desire for which you are selecting a boarding school in the first place. And things cannot run in a sloppy manner. Every broken rule must come with an appropriate consequence and you should be kept in the loop all the while.

  1. Dorm parents:

Dorm parents are the foundation of the student life department, which delivers our residential life, recreation, adventure learning, personal growth, and independent-living programming.  Dorm parents are tasked with cultivating a positive, supportive, and home-like culture in the dorm.  Dorm parents are part parent, part mentor, part counsellor, and part teacher.  Their role includes proactively helping students develop practical life, social, and community-living skills, providing critical study support during study hall, ensuring a safe and well-kept living environment, and leading on and off-campus extracurricular activities.  Dorm parents have a private apartment, including a bedroom, kitchen, living room, and bathroom.

  3. Parents should stitch the Hostel Number label in all the clothes of the ward.

  5. Parents willing to meet or take their ward home on Special Occasions should get the written permission from the Principal in advance. Permission will not be granted over telephone.
  6. Parents / Guardian are permitted to visit their ward on all second Saturdays. If any examination or school function or Inter House Activity falls around second Saturday, the children will not be permitted to go home.
  7. As the students take at least a month’s time to get accustomed to the hostel situation/environment, no parent / guardian is permitted to visit the child on the second Saturday of the first and second month (i.e. admission month for new admission). Hence you are requested to bear with the initial disturbances and allow the management and our student counselor to convince the children, to continue their stay and study in the school.
  8. Persons authorized by parents (in writing) only will be allowed to meet or take the students during holidays. Students are not allowed to go home alone without the parent’s written permission. No phone message will be accepted in this regard.
  9. Parents/Guardians are permitted to visit only their ward and not his / her friends. Only limited visitors are allowed. Similarly, they are not permitted to visit their ward during the school hours.
  10. In case of emergency permission should be sought from the Principal to meet the student during the school hours.

If found in possession it will be dealt seriously even this may lead to expulsion.
  12. Parents who have e-mail facility either at home or office are requested to inform their e-mail address, so that it may be easy for us to contact. E-mail facility is also available in the school office. Parents intending to use the same may please make use of the following E-Mail id: kips_edu@yahoo.in
  13. All communication to the school should be made only through the Principal. Parents cannot have direct contact with the teachers / wardens except through the Principal. They are also requested not to visit the teachers / wardens in their residence and not to contact them over telephone.
  14. Parents are earnestly requested to meet all the teachers/wardens during the Parents – Teachers’ contact session on every second Saturday afternoon between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Parents will not be permitted to meet their ward on any other day and time.
  15. The progress of the ward is based on the overall performance of the students and not on the studies alone.

  1. Arrangements will be made to book the Air and Railway tickets for the students during vacation, on written request of parents, along with the fare paid, well in advance. The school will make arrangements to drop and receive the students from the Airport and Railway Station on request from parents. Date and Timings should be clearly mentioned. A nominal amount will be charged as conveyance from each student depending upon the distance and group.
  2. Please ensure and abide by the discipline and decorum of the school. Especially during out- pass day, every parent is earnestly requested to meet their ward’s teachers and do access overall performance of their ward. It is very much discouraging to note that parents are only keen on taking the ward out and have no interest towards the academic performance. Parents’ attention is very much wanted in this context. During the parent – teachers’ session make it a point and adjust your busy schedule at least to be available for a day.
  3. No permission can be given through phone because there is no guarantee that the caller is the ward’s parent. If in case you want any permission, it should be intimated early and the same should be recommended in advance. Extending holidays along with out-pass days cannot be allowed. And if you fail to report on the said day; heavy fine amount will be collected along with the explanation letter.
  4. Sending vehicle to pick-up the wards should be avoided and we will not let any student go on his own because of the security reasons. If the situation demands, advance permission can be in person. Time is precious and one should not waste others time.
  5. During out pass days, parents are coming very late at night or before 2:00 pm. and troubling the administration, for the favour by making violation in rule. Such parents are advised to abide by the rules and cooperate with school authorities.
  6. Various items such as stationery & daily needs article required for a boarder is available in our school store. The administration gives articles to students according to requirement raised by them.
  7. As the children spend their prime growing years at school, it is obvious their uniforms become redundant after a year. Parents should ensure that a new set of uniforms should be ordered every year, as the clothes wear out fast since they are worn almost throughout the year.
  8. The children availing leave to attend marriages/ family functions, visit temples etc will not be encouraged by the school. This affects the academic of the children and the regular schedule of the school. Kindly avoid it and help your kids to maintain regularity and punctuality. Marks will be allotted according to the number of working days.
  9. Parents are requested to kindly understand that it would take even two month for the children to settle down fully.
  10. Parents are requested to be quite prompt in submission of school fee installments and dues and not to create botheration to administration for sending reminders and all. Final results will only be dispatched after the clearance of complete school dues.
